Every other month, we feature two MNMW team members, providing you with information to help you get to know us better!
Karen Mosteller, Partner, CPA, CHBC
Karen Mosteller joined MNMW in 1986, spending nearly her entire professional career with MNMW after seeing a presentation from the founding partner, Gail Markham, in an FBLA class in high school. At the time she was trying to settle on a career choice, and she was impressed with Gail’s professionalism, experience, and the sports car she was driving.
When she first joined the firm, Karen was entering tax returns from handwritten tax return data sheets and helping with minor office tasks. She had a passion for succeeding and told Gail that she wanted to be a partner in the firm one day. Through years of hard work and dedication, she fulfilled that promise 20 years ago. Karen’s passion has always been helping people. At MNMW she is able to use her passion to help medical, dental practice and small business clients run their businesses. She serves them best, when they see her as part of their management team. She attributes a lot of her success to learning from others and likes to share this bit of advice that she received from Gail once – “Hire people smarter than you.”
Even though Karen works daily to exceed clients’ needs, she takes every opportunity possible to spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Karen also makes sure to dote on the family pet, a golden retriever named Amber, who joins many family adventures. She likes to slow down and relax outside of the office, taking the time to read books or travel with her family in their RV. Sometimes just a quiet evening at home with her family is the best way she unwinds.
Many of our clients have had the chance to meet Karen at some point, and we are sure you can see how thoughtful and giving she is with everyone she encounters. She doesn’t hesitate to support others and feels inspired if she can help someone or put a smile on their face. It is not surprising with that kind of outlook that one of her favorite quotes is “kindness is not an act, it’s a Lifestyle.”
While work and family take up a large portion of time, Karen does volunteer her time and talents with several community boards and non-profits. So, if for some reason you have not met her yet, there are many opportunities for your paths to cross soon.
Tina McGrath, CPA
Tina McGrath enjoys living life to the fullest and embraces the great outdoors here in Florida. From boating to camping, she and her husband make sure to explore the beautiful natural environment on land and water. Before landing with MNMW in 2013, Tina worked for accounting firms of all sizes, in both the national and local arenas. When she sought a new firm to join, she wanted one that was mid-size and found that MNMW seemed to fit the criteria. However, upon visiting the firm website, she was also impressed to see that most of the team and those in partner management roles were women. She thought, “how awesome to see so many successful women in the firm!” In her role as a manager in the business consulting and tax division, she reviews and prepares tax returns; reviews financial statements; assists with peer reviews; specializes in business structuring, mergers & acquisitions, multi-state taxes, and international taxes; and mentors others on the tax team.
When not crunching numbers, she may be hard to find due to the Florida adventures mentioned earlier. She and her husband of 19 years, joined by their two dogs (who are spoiled as they should be), are often on the water enjoying offshore and inshore fishing due to the variety of fish in both environments. In fact, when asked about a favorite place to travel, her answer was “anywhere on the water where we can take the boat.” They do have an RV and enjoy camping as well, and they are big NASCAR fans.
Tina grew up in a small town, Tifton Georgia, and because football is so significant in the south, we have to mention that she loves the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons. Even though she is in Florida, she has not wavered in support of her teams.
When asked about the best advice she ever received, she stated, “you can do anything you set your mind to – you just have to believe and go for it.” With that in mind, it is not surprising that her favorite quote is “Carpe Diem!”
